March 2024 UWP Announcements

Example Assignments

As we continue to update Hokieswrite.com, we’re looking for more “pre-work” for 1106—that is, do you have any student proposals, research topic brainstorming activities, scaffolding assignments, etc. you could send our way? We appreciate all the example projects that have come in this semester and last, and it would be great if we could round out the examples by showing how students get to the later stages in 1106.

If you have any pre-work that students have written that you’d like to share, please submit them via https://hokieswrite.com/distinguished-writing/.

Everyone’s an Author

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Brown Bag on 1105 and Everyone’s an Author. We’ll have a similar session on April 17th for everyone teaching 1106. I’ve created a section on Hokieswrite.com specifically for the new textbook, and I’ve linked a handout that Megan shared in the 1105 workshop. I’ll post the materials I share once we have the 1106 workshop, and as we create other documents, I’ll post those to this link as well. Therefore, as you begin working on your Fall 2024 syllabi, please keep an eye out on this section of the website.

Writing@vt.edu

With the email switch to Microsoft, we’ve started phasing out writing@vt.edu. Therefore, if you have a question about the program, please email me (jmengert@vt.edu), Megan (mmweaver@vt.edu), or Jenna (jenzan@vt.edu). We might get the address up and running again, but for now, please avoid sending any emails to that address.

Teaching Blog

I wanted to send out a final call for anyone interested in posting a teaching blog on Hokieswrite.com. Amanda Marzolf’s beautiful and thought-provoking post is on the website, and if anyone is interested in blogging about any issue related to teaching writing, please email me your submission.
